Dog Friendly Patios in Victoria

Unfortunately, dogs aren't officially allowed on restaurant patios in Victoria. While restaurant owners may bend the rules, allowing dogs to sit with their owners outside, the provincial health authorities don't actually sanction it. Currently, there are petitions active, pushing for the British Columbia provincial government to legalize dog-friendly patios, similar to Alberta, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, but they are still in-progress.

You may happen to find restaurants with owners who are flexible, possibly allowing your pup to sit with you at your patio table; however, it's best to assume that your dog will have to be hitched to the outer perimeter of the restaurant's patio, possibly even sitting on the sidewalk. For that reason, it's advised to call ahead and ask your preferred restaurants if they'd allow your dog to sit with you at your table.

It's a good idea to bring waste bags, treats, water & food bowls, kibble, and possibly a blanket to the patio. Of course, you'll also want to bring your dog's leash and collar.
