Are dogs officially allowed on patios in Victoria?
Unfortunately, dogs aren't officially allowed on restaurant patios in Victoria. While restaurant owners may bend the rules, allowing dogs to sit with their owners outside, the provincial health authorities don't actually sanction it. Currently, there are petitions active, pushing for the British Columbia provincial government to legalize dog-friendly patios, similar to Alberta, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, but they are still in-progress.
How can dog owners bring their pups to patios in Victoria?
You may happen to find restaurants with owners who are flexible, possibly allowing your pup to sit with you at your patio table; however, it's best to assume that your dog will have to be hitched to the outer perimeter of the restaurant's patio, possibly even sitting on the sidewalk. For that reason, it's advised to call ahead and ask your preferred restaurants if they'd allow your dog to sit with you at your table.
What supplies should I bring with me to pup-friendly patios?
It's a good idea to bring waste bags, treats, water & food bowls, kibble, and possibly a blanket to the patio. Of course, you'll also want to bring your dog's leash and collar.
Is the restaurant information on this page accurate?
While we've done our best to ensure the information here is accurate, it's not perfect and restaurant policies are always changing. For that reason, it's highly recommended to call and confirm how dog-friendly your preferred restaurants' patios are.
