As a base scenario, you can plan on having your dog on-leash (even if the park is off-leash) and plan to leave in case anything goes awry — kind of like a bad date. However, keeping your dog closely under your supervision, having a leash at the ready, and staying aware of surrounding dogs, your pup's safety should be well under control.

Here are some supplies you can remember to bring to the dog park. For the car: a blanket to cover the seat, your pup's harness, and a doggy seatbelt clip. For the park: a leash, waste bags, water for you and your dog, treats, and any toys like frisbees. For yourself: sunglasses, sunscreen, running shoes, a raincoat, a hat.
